HONOURABLE SRI JUSTICE M.S.LIBERHAN

Son of an eminent lawyer late Chaudary Bakhtawar Singh, Justice Manmohan Singh Liberhan was born on 11th November, 1938 in a remote village now part of Chandigarh. Having studied at Ambala and chandigarh, he was enrolled as an Advocate on 10th October, 1962 and started the practice at District Courts, Ambala. Having practised on Civil, Revenue, Criminal and labour side at Ambala, he shifted to Punjab and Haryana High Court in the year 1964. He was appointed as Additional Advocate General and later as Advocate General of Haryana State. Elevation to the Bench came soon after when he was appointed as a permanent Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Corut on 11th February, 1987. While attending to his regular court work, his Lordship was also entrusted with an equally important and challenging assignment when immediately after demolition of the disputed structure of Ram Janma Bhoomi Babri Masjid at Ayodhya his Lordship was appointed as Chirman of the Inquiry Commission constituted by the Government of India to inquire into the matters relating to the demolition. His Lordship has also been discharging duties of the Chaimanship of the Boards of Haryana State constituted under the COFEPOSA and the Narcotics and Psychotrophic Substances Act. His Lordship had taken charge as the Chief Justice of Madras High Court on 07-07-1997. In December, 1998 His Lordship was transferred from Madras as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court and His Lordship assumed office as such on 28-12-1998.
