HONOURABLE SRI JUSTICE NISAR AHMAD KAKRU

Born on 26th October, 1949. Enrolled as a Pleader in August 1975, Vakil on 6th February 1979 and Advocate on 1st April 1982. Practised in the District and Sessions Court and other Courts at Baramulla from August 1975. Was appointed as Public Prosecutor in the District and Sessions Court Baramulla in the year 1978. Relinquished the office of the Public Prosecutor by resignation in the year 1981 in view of the order issued by Government of Jammu and Kashmir, debarring the Public Prosecutors of the State from their private practice. Continued to practice at Baramulla till 1984. Started practice in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir in 1984 in Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Service, Labour, Revenue and Company matters. Was appointed by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir as the Chief Government Advocate /Additional Advocate General in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and functioned as such from February 1988 till his resignation, tendered in December 1990 because of the reason that the popular Government which had reposed confidence in him, ceased to be in power due to imposition of the Governor’s rule in the State. Resumed private practice in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir. Was appointed as Advocate General of the Jammu and Kashmir State in the month of November 1996. Functioned and continued as Advocate General till his elevation to the bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir in the month of November 1997. Functioned as Acting Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir from 01.04.2007 to 06.06.2007, 12.11.2007 to 07.01.2008 and 20.10.2008 to 02.01.2009. Transferred to the High Court of Andhra Pradesh on elevation. Took oath on 19th February, 2010 as Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. Retired on attaining the age of superannuation i.e., 62 years on 25.10.2011 AN.
